I got myself over to the mercantile store, Lulu’s Finery and Seamstress Services, LLC, and purchased a long leather duster, a brocaded vest to carry my cigars, a pocket watch, extra ammunition, a cotton bib-shirt with a matching neckerchief, and a pair of fine wool trousers with button-up suspenders that snugged everything up tight around the inseam. A little too tight? Perhaps. I asked Lulu to let out the crotch some. I also had her fashion me a pair of custom silk holsters—powder blue, I’m picturing hummingbirds dipping their beaks into nectar embroidered on each—to keep my Colts in slippery softness so they’d slide out quickly, quietly, in a deadly whisper.
